Before & After
It was soon realised that over many years, the flooding had done considerable damage to our track bed and it wasalso realised at an early stage that if I would ever see a train pass over this section of line again, (Hilton—Hilton House Halt) considerable work was required to put our garden back to the way it was! After working with SAMCO NORTON earlier in the project is was apparent that they had both the equipment and skills to rebuild the Hilton Valley from its newly re-instated terminus at Hilton to the first run round loop on the railway—Hilton House Halt. Mr Lloyd reached this point of progress in the 1950’s, by the time track is laid, I will be re-operating to this point almost fifty years after my predecessor Mr Lloyd did. However, the loop has been slightly extended to accommodate the late Hilton train lengths of the 1960’s/70’s. Small culverts have had to be imposed due to the Manor Lake inlets that were constructed in the 1980’s.
All gradients are roughly ‘as was’ and rail and sleepers for this section has been closely matched to the original specification Mr Lloyd began with in the late 1950’s, making this line one of the closest re-instatements ever undertaken.

It is hoped that test trains will be run throughout the summer of 2005 and a small party held sometime in August for friends of our family to enjoy all the hard work
