The Underbelly of Renaissance Society Sir Robert Cecil’s Men are a group of experienced historical interpreters who have come together to present the seamy underside of renaissance society and to perform reduced versions of the best loved plays of William Shakespeare, amongst others. The Renaissance was a time of violent change in society; of gunpowder plots, conspiracies and assassinations. In these uncertain times, travelling players could be the eyes and ears of powerful lords, with free connection to both the most noble in society and the ‘penny stinkards’ in the cheapest standing places. Robert Cecil’s offers an all-day interpretation experience, with actors, tavern keeping, backstage and plenty of opportunity to get involved. With high standards of presentation and historical accuracy, there’s something for everyone.
